CUTTING 3 SIMPLE STENCILS.

If you have not cut stencils by hand or if you have a cricut cutter, you can probably skip this lesson. If you are new to stencil cutting and stencil printing then you will want to engage in this lesson.  Before embarking upon a full pattern repeat, I strongly suggest that you get used to how your stenciling material behaves and the kind of details it can provide.

You will notice that my guildelines are not on these stencils. I added them later. But it is BEST PRACTICE to put them in before you begin to cut.

My preferred stenciling material is YUPO TRANSLUSCENT paper. It is strong and thin and lasts a long time. I can see through it. It takes a B pencil quite nicely and erases beautifully.

In reality there are many different kinds of stenciling materials. An artist I know uses File Foldersbecause he works in an office and they are always available. In reality, wharever stenciling material you choose needs to stand up to your pigment and remain flat while delivering your pigment.

I find that I can use these YUPO stencils over and over again. They are repairable if they tear. They are easily purchased at DICK BLICK or any Art Supply Store.
